Overview
Derek and the Domino’s
By the time Eric Clapton launched his solo career with the release of his self-titled debut album in August 1970, he was long established as one of the world's major rock stars due to his group affiliations -- the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, and Blind Faith -- affiliations that had demonstrated his claim to being the best rock guitarist of his generation. Not surprisingly, before his solo debut had even been released, Clapton had retreated from his solo stance, assembling from the D&B&F ranks the personnel for a group, DEREK & THE DOMINOS, with which he played for most of 1970. DEREK & THE DOMINOS was a group formed by guitarist/singer Eric Clapton with other former members of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, in the spring of 1970. The group debuted at the Lyceum Ballroom in London on June 14 and undertook a summer tour of England. From late August to early October, they recorded the celebrated double album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (November 1970) with guitarist Duane Allman sitting in. The Layla album was successful in the U.S., where "Bell Bottom Blues" and the title song charted as singles in abbreviated versions, but it did not chart in the U.K. The Dominos reconvened to record a second album in May 1971, but split up without completing it. CLAPTON then retired from the music business, nursing a heroin addiction.
DUANE ALLMAN went from musical unknown to become one of rock's most revered guitar virtuosos, only to die a legend, all in about 24 months. He barely had time to establish his legacy, much less his name -- two finished studio albums with his band, a live album and lots of shows with them (some of which, off radio, are starting to surface on bootlegs), and session work in which he played behind other artists, along with songs off of a busted solo album project. The bulk of his reputation and legacy rests, understandably, with the Allman Brothers Band, but there were enough outside projects to justify a pair of anthology collections. WHOA! Talk about a RARER than RARE find, check this UNUSED Concert Ticket out! The concert was for Derek and the Domino’s featuring Eric Clapton. Derek and the Domino’s are only a group for 1 year with the members of DEREK and the DOMINO'S - Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. ERIC CLAPTON and DUANE ALLMAN of the Allman Brothers Band played together LIVE only TWO times in their careers. This is one of the times they played, December 1, 1970, at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa, Florida. How the Hell does something like this survive 41 years, and in PERFECT CONDITION! Yes, Perfect, which would mean that the concert DIDN”T sell-out?? Who knows, all I can say is this is the COLLECTABLE of the millenium that is not only a major piece of Rock and Roll History, but also a GREAT Investment! Did you know - Duane Allman is the one who created the beginning riff to “Layla” for Eric Clapton? and ”Layla” was a love song created for Patty Harrison, girlfriend to George Harrison of The Beatles. You won’t see a collectable of this caliber too many times!
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL UNUSED CONCERT TICKET FROM 1970.
